Really? Another retrograde? This time its Mars and Saturn.

This year started with a period of Venus retrograde (relating was internalised) followed by Mercury retrograde (communicating and thinking was intenralised) which ended yesterday.  And just when it seems like all is about to be forward moving, and the flow is going to return, we are about to get a 3-month dose of Mars retrograde (assertiveness and physical energy internalised) and a 4-month dose of Saturn retrograde (form and the constructed self is internalised).

Mars retrograde will feel like road blocks, delays and hesitations.  This is not the planning and communication stuff-ups of Mercury retrograde, but more that there just isn’t the energy there to get stuff done, or that some conflict gets in the way of desire and intention happening.  Be especially mindful of the Mars ruled beings (ie, us Arians), as we’re unlikely to feel our usual energetic selves, especially towards the end of this retrograde, which finishes late May.  Interestingly, we (ie, us Arians) are all going to have a retrograde Mars in our birthday charts this year, suggesting it will be a slower, less expressive or active year for us.

Generally, during Mars retrograde, the things that Mars rules, like passion, motivation, sex, will experience delays and obstacles, that divert proactiveness to frustration. This is a time that demands patience, and appreciation for the slowness; qualities which we can actually acquire in times like these.

More on Saturn turning retrograde in my next post …

In the meantime, enjoy the slowness … some things are just better when you take your time!!

a dash of vagueness

This Mercury retrograde begins with the mercurial planet conjunct Neptune in Pisces, which may well add a little vagueness, especially for the next few days.  This influence will  hang around in some way for the whole retrograde period, and probably until Mercury comes back to the conjunction with Neptune, around 23rd March.

Where Mercury is precise and detailed, Neptune is nebulous and vague.  Mercury is rational and logical, while Neptune is intuitive and imaginative.  Mercury is the mind in mundane life, while Neptune is at one with spirit.  And in Pisces, the Neptunian qualities will be exacerbated, meaning that there is a chance for delusion to go along with the heightened imagination.

So, you put all that together, and it is unlikely that the mind will be working in a straight line, especially this weekend!  If it all seems perplexing, bewildering, befuddling … then that’s probably because it is! Go with it.

But, looking on the positive side, the interaction between Mercury and Neptune is a channel between the logical mind and  intuitive.  Used wisely, this is a magical time for connection with higher consciousness.

Details? What details? (Mercury retrograde 8th Feb-2nd March 2014)

We are coming into another Mercury retrograde period, starting on Friday or Saturday (depending where on the planet you are) until the 2nd March.

Retrogrades are times when it is more important to be inwardly oriented than outer-directed.  When the inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars) are retrograde, our personal life is subject to review, reflection, re-doing or re-thinking.

Mercury rules the mind, perception, communication, commerce, education and transportation. When it is retrograde, the energy is directed internally, and the external expression is a bit off … hence, misunderstandings, delays, glitches, breakdowns in any of these areas.  I’d be guessing that IT people get more call outs to fix stuff that’s not working during this time.

It is not that we shouldn’t make any arrangements or sign any contracts during Mercury retrograde, but as our thinking and communicating tends to get a bit foggy, it’s important to double check everything.  Apparently the details are important!

And not everything is negative, this is a good time to be doing internal work … just don’t expect to be able to tell anyone else what you’ve worked out!!

The retrograde tends to affect people differently.  Geminis and Virgos, who are ruled by Mercury, are most affected … give them a bit of leeway over the next few weeks, especially towards the end of the period, as their words and thoughts get more and more muddled as the retrograde goes on.  On the other hand, people who have Mercury retrograde in their birth chart tend to be more effective than usual during this time, particularly at thinking issues through.  Generally, it is a better time for introspection than for expression.

We’re still in the process of incorporating the recent turn around of Venus into our relating, and with Pluto, with its energy of destruction and regeneration still at play, it probably pays to be cautious in the way words are chosen in love and relating.

Take care, double check the detail and laugh at the stuff-ups.  And remember that none of this is causal, and Mercury retrograde is not an excuse … just an energy that’s at play!
