The Blood Moon – Lunar eclipse, October 2014

So, the eclipse season is on us … and I’m guessing that people are already feeling the intensity.

A Lunar eclipse happens on a Full Moon, when the Sun and Moon are exactly opposite and in parallel, and the shadow of the Earth falls on the Moon, causing what is called a Blood Moon. This will be at 8.50pm Wednesday night (AEDT). Astrologically, the suggestion is that this is a time when emotions (Moon) are in hidden (shadowed), we are disconnected from our feelings. So, we can feel out of sorts and act out of character. And when you get that happening to everyone at the same time, weirdness ensues!

This full Moon is in Aries, with the Sun in Libra. The Aries-Libra polarity suggests that in general, the disconnection is likely to play out in the realm of relationships, having something to do with the balance of individuality and partnership. Maybe struggles for freedom, or one person wanting more connection while the other wants more independence.

Also look for the 15 degrees Aries-Libra point in your own chart, as this will indicate where it will hit personally. If you’re not familiar with your chart, this is a good website to use, so you can find out what part of your own life the eclipse will be affecting … http://www.alabe.com/freechart/.

But that’s just the Blood Moon, it gets far more complex. The eclipse happens with the Sun exactly on Uranus, which suggests that there will be a tendency for radical upheaval. Uranus wants us to break free in order to become our true selves. But it does this with little concern for consequences. So, over the next few days, any hint of a rut that we might be in is going to be shown to us, and we will want to run. Take the message, but throw in a little dash of caution before taking the action; with Uranus and Pluto in play, the chance of leaving utter destruction in our wake is high … and maybe not everything needed to be discarded. Or maybe it did, and if so, then the next few days, with the sparkling power of the Mars-Jupiter-Uranus Grand Fire Trine, are perfect for a psyche clear out!

But wait, that’s not all!! On Thursday (AEDT) Venus squares to Pluto, suggesting intense passions, but with a hidden agenda. Jealousy and possessiveness are high, in direct proportion to fear of losing partnership or the need to control. One way to deal with this is to bring the hidden stuff to the surface, if not, the risk is Pluto doing its destructive stuff. But even this has its own risks with the upheaval of this week.

So, put all that together … intense passions that threaten to destroy intimacy, disconnection between self and feeling, and an uncontrollable urge to break free of restrictions!! And all this while Mercury is retrograde and our capacity for effective communication is challenged. Sure, act on it if that’s what you want, but take a deep breath (or ten) first, and make sure you stop to listen to what is really going on. And remember that this is happening for everyone, so allow a little compassion, and don’t get sucked into someone else’s drama.

A touch of confusion: Mercury retrograde , October 2014

To add a touch of confusion to the wild energy of eclipses and Grand Fire Trines coming up during the next few weeks, Mercury turns retrograde over the weekend (5th October, AEST), and it will do its backwards thing for three weeks.

With so much powerful stuff going on astrologically during October I’m finding it difficult to predict how this Mercury retrograde is going to play out. Everything else will be about a radical and forceful urge to change, to get rid of old stuff, to cut ties and break free of restrictions. But Mercury retrograde says we could well make some stuff-ups along the way.

Mercury retrograde can be a tricky period at the best of times, and when combined with the forceful energies of October, if we’re not careful we could be making some silly and unintended decisions. The eclipses and the influence of the Mars-Uranus-Jupiter Trine are a brilliant opportunity for fundamental and necessary growth. With Mercury retrograde in the mix, it’ll be important to do at least a little stop and think before making drastic life-altering decisions.

Retrogrades are times when it is more important to be inwardly oriented than outer-directed, when our life is subject to review, reflection, and re-thinking. We need to direct the things that Mercury rules (the mind, perception, communication) inwards, and be aware that the external expression of these things doesn’t work so well … hence, misunderstandings, delays, glitches, breakdowns.

The retrograde tends to affect people differently. Geminis and Virgos, who are ruled by Mercury, are most affected … give them a bit of leeway over the next few weeks, especially towards the end of the period, as their words and thoughts get more and more muddled as the retrograde goes on. On the other hand, people who have Mercury retrograde in their birth chart tend to be more effective than usual during this time, particularly at thinking issues through. Generally, it is a better time for introspection than for expression.

But with the eclipses and other powerful influences going on, it won’t be possible to stand still. So the usual cautionary tale of Mercury retrograde needs a bit of allowance this time around. It won’t be possible to put everything on hold, as one might typically be advised to do with this retrograde. We are going to want to be making changes, but we might not be so good at communicating what we want to those around us. When Mercury is retrograde, its like a cloud of confusion and misunderstanding happens between the words that come out of our mouths and the ones that are heard in someone else’s ears.

So, take care, give people a bit of leeway, and laugh at the stuff-ups. And remember that Mercury retrograde is not an excuse … just an energy that’s at play!

Inspiring radical growth – Jupiter Trine Uranus

It has been said before that my astro posts seem to focus on the doom and gloom, the difficulties and challenges. And there’s some truth in that, I sort of figure that we’ll just flow with the good times, take the best of those energies without even having to know that that is what is going on. But when it comes to the more challenging stuff, it helps to be forewarned, to have some guidance in understanding and working through the trials and tribulations.

But today it’s different, today there’s an aspect that is all the good stuff … well, good stuff if you want excitement, creativity and change! Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion is just beginning a Trine aspect to Uranus, the planet of originality, freedom and unconventionality. This transit will be going in and out over the next six months, so if you’re in tune with it, expect this period to be the beginning of some radical but deliciously exciting evolution.

Jupiter is about truth, Uranus is about individuality. When these two work together we have an opportunity to unfold our own potential truth, and when this is going on for everyone, self-becoming and the manifesting of universal connection is possible.

The Trine is happening at the 15 degree point of Aries (Uranus) and Leo (Jupiter), so anyone who has any planets at these points will be being especially affected. And then, as other planets hit the 15 degree Sagittarius point, which Mars will do around about the time of the October Full Moon eclipse, we get a Grand Fire Trine and a massive burst of energy to power the inspirational and creative change of Jupiter and Uranus.

The fascinating thing is that this means Jupiter is hitting the last gasps of the Pluto-Uranus square , providing impetus for the transformation that this ‘evolve or evaporate’ energy is demanding of us on a personal, social and planetary level.

This is exciting astro stuff … anything that has been stuck in recent times has the chance to be shifted. Take notice of anything that is creating restlessness, because that’s the flag that will show what needs to change and the direction for growth.

And expect the world to be a different place. Everything is unfolding as it should!
