October, it’s a wild ride!

So you think the weather is woolly … wait till you get the astrological forecast for October, it will be a wild ride all month.  It starts off with Sun square Pluto today, followed by Sun opposite Uranus on Friday, sparking the Pluto-Uranus ‘evolve or evaporate’ energy.  Any of the need for change that has been bubbling under the surface will come up and make itself obvious over the next week, and this will be felt on both a personal and a geo-political level.  You can try to kid yourself with this energy, but you’re going to have to be pretty damn good at suppression for it to work!  This is ‘get real’ time, time to get rid of what is not working.

And then the rest of the month brings us Venus squared Neptune on the 10th (think love delusions), an eclipsed full Moon in Aries on the 19th (emotions hidden from the self), Mars opposite Neptune also on the 19th (misdirected assertion and sexual energy) and then Mercury begins another retrograde (21st).

October may be a wild ride indeed.  Of course, none of this is causal, but then there is the fundamental interconnectedness of all things ….

Roll up for the magical mystery tour …

The next week or two is a truly mystical and magical time.  We’ve got what’s called a Grand Water Trine happening … the peak of it will be between the 18th and 22nd July, but it is building in intensity already.  A Trine happens when two planets are at 120 degrees from each other, and a Grand Trine when there are three (or more) planets each at 120 degrees, making for an equal triangle.  The Trine aspect is one of flow, when the energies of the planets work well with each other. This Trine has the planets in water signs, emphasising emotions anorigin_3596061346d the unconscious.

At the moment we have Saturn (form and structure) in Scorpio and Trined to Neptune in Pisces (imagination, spirit, mysticism) and both Trined to Jupiter (expansion and opportunity) in Cancer.  Mars (assertiveness, courage, drive) moves into the aspect around the 20th.  So, you put all that together and it is an opportunity for deep connection with self, soul and spirit in an expansive way that offers opportunity for real growth.  The energy is powerfully mystical and insightful, a time when we have access to our own unconscious forces and the potential to see our deeper patterns for what they really are.

If we use this time wisely (that’s the Saturn bit!), it is an opportunity to get over our own crap, including the stories we make up about the values that we think are real but are only delusions holding us back (that’s a Neptune thing), keeping us stuck in the constructed meaninglessness of the tick-tock world!!  At the same time, there is likely to be some deep dredging going on in the unconscious mind, and that might be a bit uncomfortable. But, there is opportunity in all that for insight and transcendence.

From how I see it there are two things that will help to make the most value of this time … firstly, doing whatever is possible to get into a state to access the unconscious … meditation, dreams, or whatever works. And secondly, having some time when we’re turned off from all that electronic and mechanical stuff that keeps us attached to the mundane world, and disconnected from self.

Hmm, it’s a bit like a Beatles song … welcome to the magical mystery tour …

Julia Gillard’s 2013

Julia was never going to have it easy this year.  After last weeks’ goings on I was intrigued to go back and have a look at what this year had in store for her, and this is what I found … her solar return chart last year showed that the Sun was exactly opposite Uranus and Square to Pluto at her birthday (29th September).  The Solar Julia Gillard Birthday 2012 SF chartReturn chart is calculated for the time that the Sun returns to the exact position it was at your birth … the idea gives rise to the saying “many happy returns”.  And the chart is an indicator of the energies to expect over the coming year.

So, for Julia, while it is nice to have the Sun in the First House of a Solar Return, suggesting that she would shine and make a strong impression on those around her, the risk of this placement is that it can be quite self-focussed, and fail to see and feel what is going on in the world outside the self.  With the Sun Square to Pluto (in the Fourth House), it was inevitable that she would encounter power struggles that challenged her to transform, and that it would only be through compromise that she would get any resolution from this.  With Pluto in the Fourth House, her base was not secure … and it seems that Kevin Rudd, Simon Crean and Bill Shorten made certain of that!

At the same time, her solar return Sun was exactly opposite Uranus (in the Seventh House), suggesting radical, unexpected and impulsive changes in her partnerships and alliances.  Hmmm … seems that was an opportunity too good for an embittered ex-PM to ignore!

The added challenge for Julia is that her next birthday chart (29th September 2013) is still closely wrapped up in the Pluto-Uranus square, with the Sun only 3 degrees away from an exact square to Pluto, so she will still be experiencing powerful forces to evolve … or evaporate.  Interestingly, Pluto will be right on her Ascendant, suggesting that she will be exuding power herself (something that she might have appreciated a little more of this year) and she will have the capacity for incredible depth of insight (again, something that might have been useful this year).  The bonus for Julia with her next birthday chart is that the Moon and Jupiter will be in her Seventh House, so she should at least find comfort, meaning and growth in her personal relationships. And with her solar return Sun in the Tenth House of social status, and Uranus in the Fourth House of home base, it will be fascinating to see what stage she plays on over the next year or so.
