Julia Gillard’s 2013

Julia was never going to have it easy this year.  After last weeks’ goings on I was intrigued to go back and have a look at what this year had in store for her, and this is what I found … her solar return chart last year showed that the Sun was exactly opposite Uranus and Square to Pluto at her birthday (29th September).  The Solar Julia Gillard Birthday 2012 SF chartReturn chart is calculated for the time that the Sun returns to the exact position it was at your birth … the idea gives rise to the saying “many happy returns”.  And the chart is an indicator of the energies to expect over the coming year.

So, for Julia, while it is nice to have the Sun in the First House of a Solar Return, suggesting that she would shine and make a strong impression on those around her, the risk of this placement is that it can be quite self-focussed, and fail to see and feel what is going on in the world outside the self.  With the Sun Square to Pluto (in the Fourth House), it was inevitable that she would encounter power struggles that challenged her to transform, and that it would only be through compromise that she would get any resolution from this.  With Pluto in the Fourth House, her base was not secure … and it seems that Kevin Rudd, Simon Crean and Bill Shorten made certain of that!

At the same time, her solar return Sun was exactly opposite Uranus (in the Seventh House), suggesting radical, unexpected and impulsive changes in her partnerships and alliances.  Hmmm … seems that was an opportunity too good for an embittered ex-PM to ignore!

The added challenge for Julia is that her next birthday chart (29th September 2013) is still closely wrapped up in the Pluto-Uranus square, with the Sun only 3 degrees away from an exact square to Pluto, so she will still be experiencing powerful forces to evolve … or evaporate.  Interestingly, Pluto will be right on her Ascendant, suggesting that she will be exuding power herself (something that she might have appreciated a little more of this year) and she will have the capacity for incredible depth of insight (again, something that might have been useful this year).  The bonus for Julia with her next birthday chart is that the Moon and Jupiter will be in her Seventh House, so she should at least find comfort, meaning and growth in her personal relationships. And with her solar return Sun in the Tenth House of social status, and Uranus in the Fourth House of home base, it will be fascinating to see what stage she plays on over the next year or so.

Cancer caring … week of 23rd June 2013

winter solstice image

At the winter solstice yesterday the Sun moved into Cancer (yep, the two events are linked, it’s the same as how the Sun moves into Capricorn at the summer solstice … and I’m talking about the Southern Hemisphere here), and with Venus and Mercury already in Cancer and Jupiter about to join them next week (on Tuesday), we are indeed in the midst of the sensitive and nurturing energy of the crab … a gentler time than the fervour and frivolity of these past few Gemini weeks.  Venus and Mercury are still hanging out together, so this weekend is a great time for communications that require empathy and sensitivity.  Mercury has slowed down, preparing for its (apparent) retrograde period that starts on the 27th June.  This will be a time when thoughts turn inwards, when it is best to focus on internal processing rather than overt projections … more on Mercury retrograde in next post … Over the next few days the Sun connects into the Grand Water Trine with Saturn and Neptune.  While this won’t be as dreamy as when Venus got mixed up in this trine last week, it should be a time of heightened insight and intuition … this coming week is more of a romantic tear-jerker than an action thriller!!!

The season of eclipses …

We are in eclipse season … three eclipses in 30 days! The lunar eclipse late April started us off with the full moon in Scorpio, and then the solar eclipse in Taurus on 10th May.  The third eclipse in this cycle is another lunar eclipse at the full Moon on 25th May (and yes, a lunar eclipse always falls on a full Moon).

Generally, lunar eclipses are a time when there is a barrier between the active, assertive self (Sun) and the emotive, receptive self (Moon).

Next Saturday’s full Moon will see a culmination of whatever was started at the last new Moon (10th May) … whatever intentions we set in place then we can expect something to present next weekend.  Being an eclipse though, it’s possible that what comes up are the things that we allow to get in the way of getting what we want.  Especially the habitual, unconscious, egocentric stuff.  And with the Pluto-Uranus stuff that’s also going on this week … this really is a time to get real about where we’re stuck.

So, the best thing is to be doing whatever you do to tune into self … notice what is presenting and what limits you are creating for yourself.  The eclipse time is likely to be emotionally charged … notice what comes up, sit with it, but don’t rush to act or react … the epiphany and the clarity to communicate whatever it is, is likely to come to us later.  That’s the nature of an eclipse.

The tricky thing about this particular eclipse is that it has Neptune playing a part.  Neptune is the planet of fantasy and imagination, but its shadow side is illusion and deception.  So, while all these big shifts are happening, keep a tab on what’s real and what’s not … when Neptune is involved we can be a bit gullible to things that seem to sparkle, whether they are inside us or outside.  So, it’s also a week for whatever you do to stay grounded.  Again, clarity for action and reaction will come after the intensity of the weekend.

And keep in mind that everyone around you will be doing the same stuff. Enjoy the ride, be gentle!
