A New Year’s Evolution

… if Christmas was unconventional, then this New Year marks a massive opportunity for evolution!

On the first of January, Mars moves into Square with Pluto, again reinforcing the ‘evolve or evaporate’ power of the Pluto-Uranus Square.  At the same time, New Year’s Day is a New Moon day, which sees both the Sun and Moon conjunct (in the same place as) Pluto and Mercury.  The energy is powerful, intense, dramatic and dynamic.  The opportunity for change is palpable.  But with these combinations, it is a day to be aware of the potential for destruction, and to go gently rather than forcefully.

New Moon Year 2014

Mars is the assertive planet and Pluto is the transformative one, so when these two join in a 90 degree (Square) configuration, the desire to assert self and the need for transformation can be pulling us in different directions.  There tends to be lots of energy with this transit, and it can be quite ruthless and destructive if we’re not in tune with our underlying ego drives.  This might manifest outwardly as arguments or struggles with others, or inwardly as self-destruction.  Uranus is still involved, so the energy is radical and where it manifests is unpredictable.  And remember that everyone will be feeling this to some degree, so there are likely to be people out there who are upset, angry, irritated and hell-bent on causing hassles without knowing where the drive is coming from … be aware and take care.

What the New Year energy demands of us is that we get real with what is really driving us at heart, and act with consciousness.  The day is activating the ‘evolve or evaporate’ energy of the Pluto-Uranus square, which is marking the whole 2012-2015 period, and is a time for upheaval and radical transformation of personal, social nad cultural norms and values. So the chance for change is positive, and the drive to evolve is necessary, it is just that this New Year the shake-up might feel a bit challenging!

New Year ’s Day is also a New Moon, and it is a potent one with the Moon-Sun-Pluto-Mercury conjunction.  A powerful day for setting new intentions.

My mantra for New Year’s Day … breathe, feel, relax, release … and then act!

Messy weirdness or weird messiness?

Ok, so there’s a good chance the next few days could be a bit weird!  With the combination of an eclipsed Aries full Moon (Saturday morning for those in Eastern Australia), Mars opposite Neptune (Sunday) and Mercury turning retrograde (Monday) there is a high likelihood of misunderstandings and confusion.

An eclipse is a time when emotions (Moon) are in shadow, we are disconnected from our feelings.  So, we can feel out of sorts and act out of character.  And when you get that happening to everyone at the same time, weirdness ensues!  As this full Mooon is in Aries, watch out especially for Arians and Librans (and of course Cancerians, because they get whatever is happening to the Moon), they’ll be feeling it hte strongest.

The Mars-Neptune aspect is a physical and a psychic wobble … Mars is about physical energy, assertiveness, the yang nature.  Neptune blurs the boundaries of everything it touches, it both creates and shows the illusion of it all.  So, when these two planets are pulling in opposite directions we can get anything from clumsiness on a physical level to deceptions and delusions on an intention or spiritual level.  It is not really a great time for precision in interactions, so don’t bother getting drawn into discussions of the minutiae … it’ll just end in a messy argument! But it probably is a great time to spend in the spa or the sea (with Neptune being so watery).

And then there is Mercury going retrograde, which I’ve talked about before, essentially the things ruled by Mercury (communications) don’t quite work in a straight line … Mercury retrograde 26th June – 21st July 2013. and here … Mercury retrograde is not an excuse for stuffing up!.

Put all that together and I reckon that the next few days are going to be just a little tricky, especially when it comes to communicating or expecting that our communications have been precisely delivered!  It is a time for allowing and being forgiving, rather than judging and expecting.  A time for fantasy and dreams, rather than illusion and differences.  A time for calm and flow, rather than control and certainty …

And of course it’s not causal, just a reflection of the fundamental interconnectedness of all things …

October, it’s a wild ride!

So you think the weather is woolly … wait till you get the astrological forecast for October, it will be a wild ride all month.  It starts off with Sun square Pluto today, followed by Sun opposite Uranus on Friday, sparking the Pluto-Uranus ‘evolve or evaporate’ energy.  Any of the need for change that has been bubbling under the surface will come up and make itself obvious over the next week, and this will be felt on both a personal and a geo-political level.  You can try to kid yourself with this energy, but you’re going to have to be pretty damn good at suppression for it to work!  This is ‘get real’ time, time to get rid of what is not working.

And then the rest of the month brings us Venus squared Neptune on the 10th (think love delusions), an eclipsed full Moon in Aries on the 19th (emotions hidden from the self), Mars opposite Neptune also on the 19th (misdirected assertion and sexual energy) and then Mercury begins another retrograde (21st).

October may be a wild ride indeed.  Of course, none of this is causal, but then there is the fundamental interconnectedness of all things ….
