The Blood Moon – Lunar eclipse, October 2014

So, the eclipse season is on us … and I’m guessing that people are already feeling the intensity.

blood moon

A Lunar eclipse happens on a Full Moon, when the Sun and Moon are exactly opposite and in parallel, and the shadow of the Earth falls on the Moon, causing what is called a Blood Moon. This will be at 8.50pm Wednesday night (AEDT). Astrologically, the suggestion is that this is a time when emotions (Moon) are in hidden (shadowed), we are disconnected from our feelings. So, we can feel out of sorts and act out of character. And when you get that happening to everyone at the same time, weirdness ensues!

This full Moon is in Aries, with the Sun in Libra. The Aries-Libra polarity suggests that in general, the disconnection is likely to play out in the realm of relationships, having something to do with the balance of individuality and partnership. Maybe struggles for freedom, or one person wanting more connection while the other wants more independence.

Also look for the 15 degrees Aries-Libra point in your own chart, as this will indicate where it will hit personally. If you’re not familiar with your chart, this is a good website to use, so you can find out what part of your own life the eclipse will be affecting … http://www.alabe.com/freechart/.

But that’s just the Blood Moon, it gets far more complex. The eclipse happens with the Sun exactly on Uranus, which suggests that there will be a tendency for radical upheaval. Uranus wants us to break free in order to become our true selves. But it does this with little concern for consequences. So, over the next few days, any hint of a rut that we might be in is going to be shown to us, and we will want to run. Take the message, but throw in a little dash of caution before taking the action; with Uranus and Pluto in play, the chance of leaving utter destruction in our wake is high … and maybe not everything needed to be discarded. Or maybe it did, and if so, then the next few days, with the sparkling power of the Mars-Jupiter-Uranus Grand Fire Trine, are perfect for a psyche clear out!

But wait, that’s not all!! On Thursday (AEDT) Venus squares to Pluto, suggesting intense passions, but with a hidden agenda. Jealousy and possessiveness are high, in direct proportion to fear of losing partnership or the need to control. One way to deal with this is to bring the hidden stuff to the surface, if not, the risk is Pluto doing its destructive stuff. But even this has its own risks with the upheaval of this week.

So, put all that together … intense passions that threaten to destroy intimacy, disconnection between self and feeling, and an uncontrollable urge to break free of restrictions!! And all this while Mercury is retrograde and our capacity for effective communication is challenged. Sure, act on it if that’s what you want, but take a deep breath (or ten) first, and make sure you stop to listen to what is really going on. And remember that this is happening for everyone, so allow a little compassion, and don’t get sucked into someone else’s drama.

Surrender to the unknown

I read with interest a couple of the astrology writers in the newspapers and magazines over the last few days, and I note that not everyone is gloom and doom about the current astro energies.  This might come as a bit of a surprise, given all the talk of radical upheavals during Grand Crosses and Eclipses.  But it’s true, it doesn’t have to be all upsets and tragedies, the next couple of weeks are perfect opportunities for growth, and the best way to deal with the challenges of the time are to allow the growth, no matter what.  Surrender.  Trust.

Sure, there is plenty of pushing and pulling, and sure we are being asked to be real, to be in truth no matter how uncomfortable it feels, and sure the demands of the time are that we let go with not only no attachment to an outcome, but with no knowing of what it is all about.

The Grand Cross peaks between the 19th and 22nd April (AEST), and it is right in the middle of two eclipses (a lunar eclipse today followed by a solar eclipse on the 29th).  The Grand Cross sees Uranus (radical change) opposite Mars (physical energy) and square to Pluto (transformation) and Jupiter (growth, truth).

It might feel like a struggle, with all those internal forces stretching us in different directions.  And no doubt there can be pain and discomfort, but there is more pain and discomfort from inaction.  The tension of the moment is there to highlight what needs to change, and it is only when we hold on too tightly that the stirrings become frustrations and anger.  Rather, go with the flow, work with the forces, trust that it is taking you where you need to be taken … even when you don’t want to let go.  For me personally, I can’t even tell why, I just know that I’m being asked to evolve.

This is a time to surrender to the unknown.

Unknown-Sometimes-Surrender

Messy weirdness or weird messiness?

Ok, so there’s a good chance the next few days could be a bit weird!  With the combination of an eclipsed Aries full Moon (Saturday morning for those in Eastern Australia), Mars opposite Neptune (Sunday) and Mercury turning retrograde (Monday) there is a high likelihood of misunderstandings and confusion.

An eclipse is a time when emotions (Moon) are in shadow, we are disconnected from our feelings.  So, we can feel out of sorts and act out of character.  And when you get that happening to everyone at the same time, weirdness ensues!  As this full Mooon is in Aries, watch out especially for Arians and Librans (and of course Cancerians, because they get whatever is happening to the Moon), they’ll be feeling it hte strongest.

The Mars-Neptune aspect is a physical and a psychic wobble … Mars is about physical energy, assertiveness, the yang nature.  Neptune blurs the boundaries of everything it touches, it both creates and shows the illusion of it all.  So, when these two planets are pulling in opposite directions we can get anything from clumsiness on a physical level to deceptions and delusions on an intention or spiritual level.  It is not really a great time for precision in interactions, so don’t bother getting drawn into discussions of the minutiae … it’ll just end in a messy argument! But it probably is a great time to spend in the spa or the sea (with Neptune being so watery).

And then there is Mercury going retrograde, which I’ve talked about before, essentially the things ruled by Mercury (communications) don’t quite work in a straight line … Mercury retrograde 26th June – 21st July 2013. and here … Mercury retrograde is not an excuse for stuffing up!.

Put all that together and I reckon that the next few days are going to be just a little tricky, especially when it comes to communicating or expecting that our communications have been precisely delivered!  It is a time for allowing and being forgiving, rather than judging and expecting.  A time for fantasy and dreams, rather than illusion and differences.  A time for calm and flow, rather than control and certainty …

And of course it’s not causal, just a reflection of the fundamental interconnectedness of all things …
